Accel Invests in Indian AI Startup Revolutionizing Presentations with AI

Presentations.ai, an innovative Indian startup leveraging artificial intelligence to help businesses create presentation decks quickly and efficiently, has secured $3 million in a seed funding round led by Accel. The Bengaluru-based company aims to scale its AI-powered software, which has already amassed over 5 million users globally since its public beta launch in 2023.

Presentations are a cornerstone of business communication, used for acquiring clients, updating investors, and sharing internal milestones. However, crafting compelling presentations remains a time-consuming challenge for many organizations. Sumanth Raghavendra, co-founder and CEO of Presentations.ai, highlighted this pain point in an exclusive interview with TechCrunch.

“People struggle to take the first draft of a presentation,” said Raghavendra. “We want to be the ChatGPT for presentations. Think about making a presentation using AI, using that same construct that ChatGPT operates under.”

The platform simplifies the process by allowing users to generate professional-grade decks using AI. It provides tools like theme palettes, brand templates, and an AI-powered design assistant to customize presentations based on user preferences. Additionally, it supports multilingual content creation and integrates text-to-image models like Flux and Stable Diffusion to generate visuals seamlessly.

From Beta to Profitability

Founded in 2019, Presentations.ai emerged from stealth mode in late 2022, capitalizing on the growing interest in generative AI following the rise of ChatGPT. Within three months of its beta launch, the startup attracted a million users and is now generating “millions of dollars” in profit, according to Raghavendra.

Before Presentations.ai, Raghavendra founded Deck App Technologies, which focused on creating business content via smartphones. While that venture saw limited success, it laid the groundwork for Presentations.ai’s proprietary technology, giving it a competitive edge in a crowded market dominated by tech giants like Google and Microsoft.

“We have been doing this for so many years, and I’m fairly confident that we are far ahead of anybody else,” Raghavendra asserted. “A lot of users who come to us have typically tried other competitors, including whatever Google or Microsoft offers.”

Freemium Model Drives Growth

In early 2024, the startup transitioned from a free beta experience to a freemium model. It now boasts “tens of thousands” of paying users, with subscription plans starting at $200 annually per user in the U.S. The platform also offers localized pricing and enterprise solutions, including private instances and organization-wide licenses for collaborative workflows.

To ensure enterprise-grade security, Presentations.ai includes “guardrails” to minimize AI hallucinations and restrict access to sensitive data. For instance, financial information accessible only to the CFO can be restricted from front-line employees.

Plans for Expansion

Raghavendra revealed that the startup plans to use the seed funding to develop a dedicated presentation agent capable of creating presentations within any application. Additionally, the company will build an enterprise sales team to target larger clients.

Remarkably, Presentations.ai has achieved significant traction without spending on marketing. Its focus on proprietary IPs has kept operational costs low, resulting in higher profitability margins compared to competitors.

The startup generates 20% of its revenue from the U.S., followed by India, with key markets including the U.K., Germany, Australia, Canada, and the Middle East.

The seed round also saw participation from prominent Indian entrepreneurs, such as Vijay Shekhar Sharma (Paytm), Kunal Shah (CRED), Girish Mathrubhootham (Freshworks), and Phanindra Sama (RedBus).
