Micron Shuts Down Crucial to Prioritize AI Memory Demand

Micron is shutting down its Crucial brand, ending the company’s long-running line of consumer SSDs and RAM. According to VideoCardz, Micron announced that stepping away from the consumer market will help it better serve its largest and fastest-growing customers—primarily companies building AI systems.

The decision comes at a time when memory prices are climbing sharply due to intense demand from the AI sector. OpenAI, for example, has secured major supply deals with SK Hynix and Samsung to produce as many as 900,000 DRAM units each month for its Stargate project.

With Crucial exiting the scene, PC enthusiasts and builders will have one fewer source of reliable, affordable memory, which may worsen the already tightening supply. Rising RAM costs are already affecting prices at CyberPowerPC, Framework, and Raspberry Pi, and HP has hinted it may need to raise prices or reduce memory in some devices.

Micron says it will continue shipping Crucial products until the end of February 2026 and will still provide warranty coverage and support after that.
