OpenAI Just Crossed $10 Billion in Revenue And It’s Only Getting Started

It’s official: OpenAI has reached a staggering $10 billion in annual recurring revenue, more than doubling its haul from about $5.5 billion just last year.

The numbers, shared by an OpenAI spokesperson with CNBC, reflect revenue from its growing ecosystem — including its consumer products, ChatGPT business offerings, and the API that powers thousands of apps and tools worldwide. Today, OpenAI serves an astonishing 500 million weekly active users and boasts 3 million paying business customers no small feat for a company that launched its breakout chatbot, ChatGPT, just two and a half years ago.

The momentum is undeniable. OpenAI now has its sights set on an ambitious new goal: reaching $125 billion in annual revenue by 2029.

But rapid growth comes with its own set of challenges. OpenAI continues to burn through billions of dollars each year, pouring resources into hiring the brightest minds in AI and building the advanced infrastructure needed to keep its models running and evolving.

And while it’s clear the demand for AI is skyrocketing, there’s one question the company has yet to answer publicly: Is it profitable? So far, OpenAI has remained tight-lipped about its exact operating expenses or how close it is to turning a profit.

One thing is certain — OpenAI’s story is just getting started. And with this pace of growth, the next chapter promises to be even more fascinating.
