Samsung May Unveil Bone-Conduction Earphones Alongside Galaxy Z Fold 7

Samsung is expected to launch the Galaxy Z Fold 7 in July 2025, and recent leaks suggest that the company might also introduce a new pair of bone-conduction earphones at the same event. This could mark Samsung’s entry into an emerging audio technology sector.

Leaked Information on Samsung’s New Audio Tech

The leak originates from Ice Universe, a well-known tech insider, who posted on Weibo that Samsung Electronics MX division will unveil bone-conduction headphones at the Galaxy Z Fold 7 launch event.

According to the leak, the headphones are codenamed “Able” and will feature open wireless stereo (OWS) technology. OWS is designed to transmit sound around the ear rather than directly into it. However, TechRadar notes that there is some ambiguity about whether the headset will primarily use air conduction (OWS) or bone conduction technology, as the two function differently.

OWS vs. Bone Conduction – What to Expect?

There is speculation that Samsung’s new earphones could resemble the Bose Ultra Open Earbuds, which rest outside the ear instead of being placed inside the ear canal. TechRadar notes that while details remain scarce, the key difference between these technologies is:

  • Bone conduction technology transmits sound through vibrations on the skull, bypassing the eardrum.
  • Air conduction (OWS) refers to open earbuds that sit near the ear but don’t fully block it.

With no official confirmation yet, the full details on design, pricing, and availability will likely be revealed at Samsung’s event in July.

Why This Move Matters for Samsung

If Samsung enters the bone conduction market, it would be a significant move into a relatively niche audio space, which is currently led by Shokz, Philips, and H2O Audio.

On the other hand, if the device follows an open-ear wireless design, it will compete with Bose in a growing segment of high-quality open audio solutions.

Either way, Samsung’s upcoming audio device could disrupt the headphone market and further expand its Galaxy ecosystem beyond traditional earbuds like the Galaxy Buds 2 Pro.
