SpaceX CEO Elon Musk has announced plans to provide a live technical update on the Starship rocket ahead of its 10th flight test. The event is expected to take place in the coming weeks, just before the rocket’s next scheduled launch in early August.
In a post on X, Musk said he will cover Starship’s progress to date as well as future engineering, production, and launch plans. The update is likely to be held at SpaceX’s Starbase facility in Boca Chica, Texas.
Shortly before the next flight, I will do a live technical update on Starship, going over progress to date and engineering, production, and launch plans for the future, Musk shared.

What to Expect from the Presentation
The presentation is expected to shed light on lessons learned from recent flight tests and how those insights are being applied to refine the spacecraft. Starship currently holds the title of the most powerful launch vehicle ever built, producing about 17 million pounds of thrust at liftoff.
Recent Starship missions have shown a mix of successes and setbacks such as successful booster landings alongside lost spacecraft. In June, an engine explosion during a ground test destroyed the upper stage of the rocket. No injuries were reported.
Musk may also provide updates on:
- The number of Starship vehicles and boosters in production
- Challenges in the supply chain
- Long-term goals for launch frequency
The Road to Mars and the Moon
NASA plans to use Starship to transport astronauts and cargo to the lunar surface in upcoming Artemis missions later this decade. Musk also envisions Starship playing a central role in crewed missions to Mars—potentially within the next few years.
The 10th flight test will be a critical milestone in proving Starship’s readiness for more advanced missions. SpaceX has been gradually improving reliability with each launch, despite setbacks.
When Will the Update Happen?
Musk had initially planned to hold a similar event during the ninth test flight in May, but it was canceled at the last minute. He has now confirmed the update will take place before the upcoming launch, with an exact date to be announced once the flight schedule is finalized.
