The Supreme Court has upheld a ban on TikTok, and with the app set to go dark on Sunday, you might be wondering how to back up your collection of videos—whether it’s dozens, hundreds, or even thousands.
If you want to save your favorite clips or the ones you’ve posted, we’ve got you covered with a step-by-step guide. Plus, we’ve rounded up some great TikTok alternatives to help you stay creative and connected without missing a beat.
How to download individual TikTok content
Saving your favorite TikTok videos or photos to your device is simple and quick.
To download a video on iOS or Android follow these simple steps :
- Open your TikTok profile and select the video you want to save.
- Tap the Share button on the right side of the screen.
- Choose Save Video, and it will be downloaded to your device.
You can save tiktok photos using the same steps.
⚠️ Note: Creators can restrict downloads of their content. This means some videos in your Likes, Reposts, or Bookmark tabs might not have the Save Video option.
If you need to save a large number of videos, this method can be time-consuming since each video must be downloaded individually. While third-party apps offer bulk download options, their reliability varies, so use them with caution.
How to obtain your TikTok data
You can also request a copy of your TikTok data, which may include details like your username, viewing history, comment logs, and privacy settings. However, TikTok notes that not all data may be available for download, especially if it involves others’ privacy.
To request your data:
- Go to your TikTok profile and tap the Menu button at the top to access Settings.
- Navigate to Account and select Download your data.
- Choose the data you want to include and pick a file format: TXT or JSON.
- Tap Request data to submit your request.
TikTok will compile a data file for you to download from the app, which may take a few days to prepare. You’ll receive a notification once the file is ready, so don’t delay—especially with the upcoming ban.
When your file is ready, tap Download in the app. Note: The file will only be available for four days after preparation.
