A Bluetooth speaker is one of those devices that, once you find one you like, you won’t be able to imagine how you lived without it.
Since Bluetooth and speakers aren’t exactly new technology, this is one of the more expansive product categories in the tech world. Consequently, the Mashable tech and shopping teams have stepped in to help. We stay on top of the latest releases from brands like Sony, JBL, Bose, and Marshall.
As of November 2025, our top picks include the near-indestructible JBL Charge 6, the smart home-integrated Sonos Move 2, and the charmingly retro Marshall Emberton III.

1. JBL Charge 6
Verdict: Best for most people
The JBL Charge 6 is big enough to produce sound that will fill an outdoor party. However, it remains small enough to live on your bookshelf. Plus, it can charge other devices via USB-C. On balance, we think it is the best Bluetooth speaker for most people right now.
Pros:
- Doubles as a portable charger
- Superior sound to its predecessor
- IP68-rated water- and dust-proof
- Supports Auracast for multi-speaker pairing
Cons:
- Larger than standard “portable” speakers
- Higher starting price than the Charge 5
The Review: JBL ditched the USB-A port on the Charge 5. Instead, they opted for a USB-C to USB-C cable that allowed us to charge phones, earbuds, and even other speakers.
However, the sound quality is the real star. Even at the lowest volumes, the Charge 6’s sound easily filled a living room without sacrificing quality. Furthermore, when listening to complex tracks, the balance came through strong and clear. Additionally, the companion app offers four different equalizer presets.
You can also amplify your sound. Thanks to the included Auracast, you can pair it with other compatible JBL speakers. If you need a boost, toggle on “PlaytimeBoost” mode for an extra four hours of battery life.
2. Ultimate Ears Wonderboom 4
Verdict: Best under $100
The Ultimate Ears Wonderboom 4 is a powerhouse for its size and price. Moreover, it is rugged enough to take hiking and compact enough to toss next to the pool.
Pros:
- Impressive, balanced sound
- IP67 Waterproof and floats in water
- Drop-proof up to five feet
- USB-C charging
Cons:
- Bass gets distorted at high volumes
- “Podcast Mode” EQ is underwhelming
The Review: The Wonderboom 4 is visually similar to the Wonderboom 3. Like its predecessor, you can drop it from five feet without destroying it. Furthermore, if you drop it in water, it floats for up to 30 minutes.
Sound-wise, the Wonderboom 4 has less “muddiness” than previous models. While we didn’t love the new “Podcast Mode,” the standard audio is excellent. Consequently, the sound profile is well-rounded and gets surprisingly loud. Additionally, the new USB-C port makes charging much easier.
3. Sonos Move 2
Verdict: Best for battery life
This smart speaker provides exceptional sound and hands-free convenience. Just remember to keep it charged.
Pros:
- Up to 24 hours of battery life
- Premium audio quality
- WiFi and Bluetooth connectivity
Cons:
- Heavy and bulky
- Expensive
The Review: The Sonos Move 2 is a hefty speaker, but that weight translates to performance. It offers stereo sound in a single standalone unit, which is a massive upgrade from the original Mono version. Additionally, it seamlessly integrates into your existing Sonos home system via WiFi but switches effortlessly to Bluetooth when you leave the house.
4. Marshall Emberton III
Verdict: Best design
The Emberton III brings the classic rock-and-roll amp aesthetic to a portable form factor. Specifically, it features Marshall’s signature “True Stereophonic” multi-directional sound, ensuring the audio sounds great from every angle. With 32+ hours of battery life and a new built-in microphone for calls, it blends style with serious utility.
5. IKEA VAPPEBY Portable Speaker
Verdict: Honorable mention
IKEA continues to surprise in the audio space. The VAPPEBY isn’t just a speaker; one version doubles as an outdoor lamp, making it perfect for garden parties. Moreover, it features “Spotify Tap” integration, allowing you to resume your music with a single button press. Therefore, it is a unique, budget-friendly option that looks unlike anything else on this list.
6. Sony ULT Field 3
Verdict: Best for bass lovers
Sitting between the compact Field 1 and the massive Field 7, the Sony ULT Field 3 hits the sweet spot. Uniquely, the dedicated “ULT” button instantly boosts low-end frequencies, delivering a thumping bass response that defies its size. Furthermore, it is rugged, dust-proof, and designed to keep the energy high.
7. JBL Clip 4
Verdict: Best for portability
While slightly older, the JBL Clip 4 remains the king of ultra-portability. For instance, the fully integrated carabiner allows you to clip it instantly to a backpack, belt loop, or bike handle. Additionally, it is waterproof, robust, and offers surprisingly punchy audio for a speaker that fits in the palm of your hand.
8. Anker Soundcore Select 4 Go
Verdict: Best speaker under $50
If you are on a strict budget, the Anker Soundcore Select 4 Go is unbeatable. It offers IP67 waterproofing and decent battery life for a fraction of the cost of premium brands. While it won’t shake the walls, it provides clear, reliable audio. Therefore, it is perfect for podcasts or shower singing.
9. Beats Pill
Verdict: Best to buy on sale
The 2024 relaunch of the Beats Pill brought USB-C lossless audio and a refined design. Furthermore, it pairs magnetically with other Pills and integrates perfectly with both iOS and Android ecosystems. However, you should watch for sales, as this premium speaker often sees significant discounts.
10. Bose SoundLink Micro (2nd Gen)
Verdict: Best travel speaker
The Bose SoundLink Micro is tiny but tough. Its tear-resistant silicone strap lets you mount it to handlebars or bag straps securely. Despite its small footprint, it delivers the rich, balanced tone Bose is famous for. Thus, it is the ideal companion for hikers and bikers.
11. JBL PartyBox Stage 320
Verdict: Best party speaker
When you need to power a full event, the PartyBox Stage 320 is the answer. It features massive sound, deep bass, and a built-in light show that syncs to the music. Additionally, with telescopic handles and wheels, you can roll this beast into any venue and instantly start the party.
12. Sony ULT Field 7
Verdict: Best boombox
The Sony ULT Field 7 represents a modern take on the classic boombox. Cylindrical, heavy, and incredibly loud, this device demands attention. Furthermore, it features microphone inputs for karaoke alongside the same “ULT” bass booster found in its smaller siblings. Ultimately, it is built to be the centerpiece of any gathering.
