If your dashboard was refusing to load or you were greeted by a frustrating “network error” message this weekend, you were not alone. Tumblr, the beloved blogging platform, suffered a massive outage that left thousands of users unable to access their blogs, reblog posts, or even log in.

Here is everything we know about the crash, the official response, and when you can expect services to return to normal.

What Happened?

The issues began spiking on Friday evening, February 6, 2026, and persisted into the early hours of Saturday. According to outage tracking site Downdetector, reports of problems skyrocketed, peaking at over 33,000 users.

The outage appears to have affected users globally, with the primary complaints being:

  • App Failure: The mobile app for iOS and Android was completely unresponsive for many.
  • Server Connections: Users on desktop browsers saw “503 Service Temporarily Unavailable” or generic connection errors.
  • Login Issues: Many users were logged out and could not get back in.

Is Tumblr Back Online?

As of Saturday morning, February 7, 2026, services have largely been restored. The number of error reports has dropped significantly, and most users are reporting that their dashboards are loading again, albeit slowly.

However, you may still experience some “hiccups.”

  • Laggy Performance: Images and GIFs might take longer to load than usual as the servers catch up with the backlog of data.
  • Glitched Notifications: Some users are reporting missing notifications or broken messaging (DMs).

What Caused the Outage?

Tumblr has acknowledged the issue, though they haven’t released a specific technical post-mortem yet. In true Tumblr fashion, the official support account on social media made light of the situation to calm users down.

The platform jokingly blamed the crash on “Goncharov” (a reference to the platform’s favorite fake Martin Scorsese movie meme) tripping over a power cord. While the joke was on brand, the team confirmed they were working “ASAP” to stabilize the infrastructure.

What to Do If Tumblr Is Still Down For You

If your friends are reblogging away but you are still staring at a loading screen, the issue might be cached data on your device. Try these steps to force a refresh:

  1. Clear App Cache: Go to your phone settings, find Tumblr, and clear the cache. This removes old, corrupted data without deleting your blogs.
  2. Force Close: Don’t just minimize the app—swipe it away completely and restart it.
  3. Check for Updates: Head to the App Store or Google Play Store. A patch may have been released to fix connectivity bugs.
  4. Use the Browser: If the app is broken, try logging in via a mobile or desktop web browser (Chrome, Safari, etc.).

The Community Reaction

Naturally, when the dashboard goes dark, the users go to X (formerly Twitter). The hashtag #TumblrDown trended for hours, with users sharing memes about being “evicted” from their digital home and panicking about losing their drafts.

For now, it seems the panic is over. You can safely return to your dashboard—just be patient if it loads a little slower than usual.
